Milpitas Community Center
This year’s event was well attended and a lot more cars on display. Nice to see the local volunteers from Spring Valley Volunteer FD with their apparatus and Milpitas PD with the marked Taurus side by side with classic muscle. Despite the weather, people and enthusiasts were out enjoying the displays. For you history folks, Milpitas is steeped in car culture, tracing its origins to the former Ford plant (aka Great Mall) to generations of newly minted 16 year olds and their parents and their love of cars and Baylands Raceway (now Automall Parkway) in Fremont.
From a historical and geographical perspective, having a car show in Milpitas makes sense since the city’s incorporation was in part by having the Ford plant. Now the ‘Great Mall’. At the same time, Milpitas was called the ‘crossroads’ of Silicon Valley, back in the day when the PC and internet revolution was gaining momentum in the 90s. Its kinda tongue and cheek really because as true as it is, its also the cause of much frustration with the traffic that comes with it.
I like this annual car show. This isn’t about booth babes and hard stares. Its a family friendly event where all generations can come together in their interest of cars.
