SAN FRANCISCO REGIONAL MENSA'S GIFTED CHILDREN PROGRAM AND THE GIFTED
HOMESCHOOLERS FORUM ANNOUNCE FREE SEMINAR ON HOMESCHOOLING
SAN FRANCISCO, November 24, 2008 -- In response to the increasing
number of inquiries from Bay Area parents about educational options
for their gifted children, the Gifted Children Program of San
Francisco Regional Mensa (SFRM) and the Gifted Homeschoolers Forum
(GHF) will co-sponsor a free seminar on January 24, 2009, from 10 am
to 2 pm at Baywood Learning Center in Oakland.
Attendees will learn the basics of homeschooling from featured speaker
Corin Barsily Goodwin, Executive Director of GHF, who homeschools her
own two children. Her presentation will include a discussion of the
many ways to homeschool legally in California, Bay Area resources, and
some of the benefits of alternative education as they apply to
children who learn differently. There will be two panels -- one of
homeschooling parents, and one of homeschooled gifted children --
discussing what nontraditional education is really like for them.
Grace Neufeld, Executive Director of Baywood Learning Center, will
also share the story of how she founded Baywood.
"We're so excited to offer such a knowledgeable, diverse range of
speakers and panelists," says Elena Vega, SFRM's co-Gifted Children
Coordinator. "This seminar will give parents information that could
improve their children's educational experience, as well as let them
know what Mensa, GHF, and other resources have to offer them."
There is no cost to participants for the seminar. Some refreshments
will be provided, but it is suggested that attendees bring a bagged
lunch. Onsite childcare will not be provided. Space is limited.
For reservations, contact Elena Vega at (415) 999-4853 or
TICKETS: Free. Donations accepted.
GENERAL: Bring bagged lunch (optional); snacks provided. No onsite childcare.
