Cruising Homeschoolers

Homeschooling on a Boat

Barenaked Family
We are Discovering our life together as a Family that started young and broke and excelled through Dad's career and acquiring stuff. We chose to let go donating and selling most everything but the bare essentials to ultimately spend as much of our free time together as we possibly could... on a boat!

The Cruising Family
I've never believed that the only way to get an education is to sit at a desk with four walls around you. The world is our classroom, and our home - a 41-foot sailboat - takes us there.

The Cruising Family
The Theisen Family has been living aboard their sailboat, Out of Bounds, since 1990. Out of Bounds is a 1974 Gulfstar 41 sloop. The Theisens belong to both Seven Seas Cruising Association and Women Aboard.

Homeschool Adventures
It's a convention at sea. It's a vacation. It's an exploration. It's an educational experience for everyone in the family. The next ship leaves 2/7/2005 heading to the Western Carribbean & Mexico.

Homeschool Afloat
The Crumpler Family from Georgia extend their homeschooling to a learning experience afloat and took a Basic powerboating course aboard "Red Dog." Here are the young students' perspectives of their class.

Homeschooling Children Aboard
Now that we've lived aboard for almost seven years with our own kids, we are convinced.  Boating families are together families.  There is no doubt in my mind that our children are very different than their peers.

Kids Aboard
What would you do if you had a four year old or a fourteen year old on your boat for a month, or even just one day? There are many things that kids can do while on board to stay occupied, have fun and even learn something new.

Mom and Dad Deliver the World
Presented with a unique opportunity and blessed with an adventurous family, a veteran of the solo-sailing wars turns a boat delivery into a 13,000-mile field trip. By Alan Nebauer, Cruising World, October 1, 2002.

Starting School - St. John's, Newfoundland
I decided against doing a set program like Calvert because I like teaching, and I figured I could tailor the program to where we were and what we were doing if I made up my own syllabus. By Kate and Hamish Laird

Warm Winds
One family's offshore sailing adventure while homeschooling on a large sailing vessel.

Homeschooling on a Cruise Ship

LFHSC 5 Day Western Caribbean Cruise

All in the Same Boat: Family Living Aboard and Cruising

As a current live aboard I really enjoyed everything presented about family life for cruisers. The insights the young daughters give helps understand how kids aboard percieve the experience. Excellent reading for anyone thinking of moving onto a boat with a family.
