“The ordinance,” said a City of Milpitas press release, “establishes sensible regulations that comply with State law and provides access to medicinal cannabis products to qualifying patients while ensuring controls are in place that maximize community safety. It remains unlawful to deliver recreational cannabis within the City.”

Here in Milpitas, in 2020, a small, but loud group, some Milpitas Residents, some not, continue to echo 1930s propaganda to try and control the narrative of Cannabis in our wonderful city. The group known as Better Milpitas, over the last couple years, has been successful, using hints of the same rhetoric designed to inspire fear and control from over 90 years ago.

Milpitas City Council stands in unity for suicide prevention
On the evening of June 19, 2018, at the Milpitas City Council meeting, the five council members — Councilmember Bob Nuñez, Councilmember Garry Barbadillo, Councilmember Anthony Phan, Vice Mayor Marsha Grilli, and Mayor Rich Tran — voted unanimously to approve the adoption of a resolution and implementation of a Suicide Prevention Policy.

Milpitas Hope
In 2018, the City of Milpitas adopted its Suicide Prevention Policy and convened a community task force that includes health care professionals, educators, faith and community leaders, Milpitas Police Department, Milpitas Recreation and Community Services and residents. We partner closely with Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services, which coordinates regional suicide prevention efforts. We welcome organizations, businesses and individuals to join us.
