Features of GoMilpitas.com

Use GoMilpitas.com as your daily connection with everyone living and working in Milpitas, and all their activities and businesses. GoMilpitas was and still is the original town water cooler! Support our town by spending time and money right here in town, not supporting new sites where the money goes out of state in a heartbeat!

As GoMilpitas.com passes its 20th anniversary, I, Ann Zeise, a resident of Milpitas since 1983, want to take the time to remind you why we’re here and what this site is all about. It is all about you and what you find great and fascinating about Milpitas, California!

I have designed this website here at my home on Grand Teton Dr. with YOU in mind at all times. I have listened to you when I ran into you at Milpitas events, in Milpitas stores, and when you emailed me for over 20 years. There is a Facebook page and a Facebook Group where you can comment and have a way to tell others what you like best now. GoMilpitas.com doesn’t just hope this site will strengthen our community: it has already been doing this for over 20 years! It was created in 1997, well before the city government site, even!

Unlike Patch, which is owned by AOL in New York, the income I make here from advertising gets mostly spent here in Milpitas. I get my hair cut at Jessica’s. I keep my money in the Commonwealth Credit Union. I go to local doctors and dentists as needed. I am a paying member and regularly attend the Camera Club and the Historical Society. I support the Chamber of Commerce and attend Rotary meetings.

Features

The new search engine now stays on the same page you started on until you make a selection, and then it quickly moves you to your destination. This is the best way to find the exact business or organization you want. The jokes are no longer filtered out, so if you need a laugh, feel free to select some humor. Sometimes you will also see old events, but their links may be just what you need. There are no longer Google ads in search. No ads at all, in fact.

The alphabetical directory leads you to posts of groups of similar information. Each listed post now includes its tags so if the post doesn’t seem quite right, you can navigate to all pages with the same tag.

The Social Tab takes you directly to the social media sites where I and others in the community can post. One of the links takes you to other Milpitan’s social media sites for an even broader outlook.

The Menu allows you to drill down on all topics covered here.

Features you can Customize

By creating a login ID and password you can regularly post and update your group’s events. This is free. I just ask that the event be open to all in Milpitas who might read the event on here, and self-select due to interest. Event should be free or minimal cost, no more than $20. Huge, expensive events with a cost much higher, should contact me about an advertising fee. I used to demand that all events be located in Milpitas, but since Covid, I have been allowing Zoom and other virtual venues events, too.

The Accessibility widget in the upper right corner allows you to modify the font size, keyboard navigation, substitute Dyslexie for the font if you are dyslexic, choose the colors, and remove animations. As long as you don’t clear the cookie for this site, your modifications will remain in effect when you return.

To add the icon to your smart device, select the sharing icon, the box with the up arrow, and in the lower section of the popup, select “Add to Home Screen.” It will then function like an app. On a large computer, please add it as a bookmark.

You can contact me to ask me to make and edit, fix something, or general information about Milpitas.
