Skiing

No, it doesn't often snow in Milpitas, and never enough to ski, but many love to head to the slopes near Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Here's our favorite nearby ski areas within about a 4-hour drive of Silicon Valley. If I missed one, please email me with the URL if you have it. Updated for the 2006-2007 ski season.

A 'ski week' guide for families
CHECK OUT OUR LIST OF EVENTS ON THE SLOPES
By Michael Martinez, Mercury News
"Ski Week" starts Monday, but a lot of folks will be heading for the hills Friday afternoon for an early start to the weeklong Presidents' Day break at resorts throughout California. You won't find many deals or discounts out there - not during one of the most popular times on the ski calendar - but we've rounded up some interesting events (and a few bargains) that are worth considering as you plan a family trip.

*Skier icon indicates open ski resorts. Plenty of snow in all areas, but wind and road conditions may have some closed down. Check trail conditions before you go.*
