In general, ordinary citizens of Milpitas may not hold fireworks displays within city limits.
Please keep our neighborhoods safe and quiet by obeying laws regarding fireworks.

XI-10-15.04 – Definitions

C. The Director or designee may condition any permit issued pursuant to this Section with reasonable requirements concerning the time, place or manner of holding the Special Event as is necessary to coordinate multiple uses of public property, assure preservation of public property and public spaces; prevent dangerous, unlawful or prohibited uses, protect the safety of persons and property and to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic in and around the venue, provided that such requirements shall not be imposed in a manner that will unreasonably restrict expressive or other activity protected by the California or United States Constitutions. Conditions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
10. Use of fireworks, pyrotechnics, or equipment or materials that create substantial risk of damage to City property

23. “Special Event” means an outdoor event that consists of any of the following:
c) An activity or event on a public right-of-way, plaza, paseo, park or private property which involves:
ii. The use of live animals, fireworks, pyrotechnics, electrical power and/or cabling, or equipment or materials that can create a risk of damage to public or private property or injury to persons.

Section 5601.1.3 of the California Fire Code 2019 Edition, is amended to read in its entirety as follows:

5601.1.3 Fireworks. The possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling, and use of fireworks, including those fireworks classified as Safe and Sane by the California State Fire Marshal, are prohibited.

The possession, manufacture, storage, sale, handling and use of fireworks are prohibited.

Exceptions:

Storage and handling of fireworks as allowed in Section 5604.
Manufacture, assembly and testing of fireworks as allowed in Section 5605 and Health and Safety Code Division 11.
The use of fireworks for fireworks displays pyrotechnics before a proximate audience and pyrotechnic special effects in motion pictures, television, theatrical or group entertainment productions as allowed in Title 19, Division 1, Chapter 6 Fireworks reprinted in Section 5608 and Health and Safety Code Division 11.
The possession, storage, sale, handling and use of specific types of Division 1.4G fireworks where allowed by applicable laws, ordinances and regulations, provided that such fireworks and facilities comply with NFPA 1124, CPSC 16 CFR Parts 1500 and 1507, and DOTn 49 CFR Parts 100—185, as applicable for consumer fireworks and Health and Safety Code Division 11.

Exception: The use of fireworks for fireworks displays as allowed in Section 5608 Fireworks Display.

Outdoor fireworks displays, use of pyrotechnics before a proximate audience and pyrotechnic special effects in motion picture, television, theatrical and group entertainment productions shall comply with California Code of Regulations, Title 19, Division 1, Chapter 6 Fireworks and this section.

City of Milpitas receives “Smart 50” award for sustainable infrastructure program

The City of Milpitas has been recognized with a “Smart 50” Award. The annual Smart 50 Awards are given to cities that stand out for having innovative and influential “Smart City” projects, per a partnership between Smart Cities Connect and the Smart Cities Connect Foundation. The term “smart city” refers to cities that are advanced in terms of information and communication technology.

Milpitas has long nurtured its Smart City infrastructure program, part of which has meant constructing new sustainable microgrids while enacting far-reaching water and energy conservation initiatives.

Said a press release from the City, “Delivered in collaboration with ENGIE North America, 10 water and energy infrastructure improvement measures in the construction phase of the initiative are either complete or nearing completion. Combined, these measures will enhance community services and safety, contribute to the City’s Climate Action Plan and resiliency goals, and reduce its operations, maintenance, and utility costs.”

Santa Clara County Parks Jr. Ranger Program
Jr. Ranger Programs run for six consecutive weeks, meeting one day each week for two hours and will be offered at Ed Levin park during the spring and fall. Milpitas Metro Specific Plan
The Milpitas Metro Specific Plan (formerly Transit Area Specific Plan) is a plan for the redevelopment of an approximately 437-acre area in the southern portion of the City that currently includes a number of industrial uses near the Great Mall shopping center. Based on City Council direction, the Draft Preferred Plan currently proposes redevelopment of this area with 7,109 dwelling units, 993,843 square feet of office space, 340 hotel rooms and 287,075 square feet of retail space centered around the proposed Milpitas BART station and the VTA Light Rail system. Milpitas Metro Specific Plan – Land Use and Density Policies
Agenda Report Attachment prepared for the City Council Meeting on January 19, 2021. This plan was originally scheduled to conclude in April 2021, however it has been extended in order to provide planning and environmental review for housing development in order to comply with RHNA and property owner interest in housing development in the Great Mall Subdistrict.

Whether you need a meeting hall for business, a wedding, or large event, there are halls to rent in Milpitas! Unfortunately, Milpitas has no convention center. When you’re planning an event on a short timeline, you don’t have the luxury of thoroughly vetting meeting halls, let alone taking the time to find and select the right venue. In partnering with Facilitron, Milpitas Unified School District has launched custom facility use sites for the district and each school – allowing facility use requests to be submitted at any time. You can view and request all district facilities here. Milpitas Unified School District’s administrative staff will make final decisions on all facility use requests.

The Milpitas Police Department’s top priority is to ensure the safety of our guests. Please note that any meeting event in the Police Department Community Room is contingent upon current public health orders and City policy.

Vaccination Requirements

The City of Milpitas will not require guests to show proof of vaccination when entering the Police Department Community Room.

Masks and Face Coverings

Effective Thursday, July 29, 2021, the City of Milpitas requires all City employees and visitors to wear face coverings in indoor settings within City buildings, regardless of vaccination status. Masks will not be provided, and guests must bring their own when entering the building.

Room Capacity Limits

The City of Milpitas Police Department is limiting capacity to 35 guests max until further notice.

Food and Beverages

Food and beverages are not permitted, except for water.

Meeting and Time Limits

Only one reservation is permitted in the Police Department Community Room per day. Until further notice, reservations for the Community Room shall be on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations shall not be confirmed more than sixty (60) days in advance, and groups and individual applicants are limited to no more than two (2) reservations per calendar month.

***These guidelines supercede the Community Room additional guidelines dated July 2020. Public health orders are subject to change at any time, and reservations may be cancelled if the public health orders deem non-essential meetings unsafe.

United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County (UNSCC) is a coalition of neighborhood associations and homeowner’s associations in Santa Clara County who have come together for the purposes of education, communication and common action. United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County is a nonprofit (501c3) corporation, and it provides insurance and other benefits to member neighborhoods.

UNSCC is made up of member neighborhood associations and homeowner associations and governed by its Board of Directors. Annual membership dues are $200.00.
