Hellyer Velodrome
The Hellyer Park Velodrome remains closed, but check for updates here. Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation re-opened some low risk park facilities last week, where you can recreate alone or with members of the same household. Hellyer County Park Velodrome strives to promote the sport of track cycling by offering diversified racing programs, developing athletes, providing healthy fitness programs for the community and bringing world-class track racing to the Northern California area.

Cherry City Cyclists
For us, rides are social events, not races, so we make every attempt to ride as a group for safety and camaraderie. Santa Clara Countywide Bike Plan
The plan establishes a network of Cross County Bikeway Corridors that will provide continuous, complete bike connections across the county. The plan also identifies locations where new and improved bike connections are needed across freeways, rail lines and creeks. Lastly, the plan identifies ways to make it easier for people to use their bike with transit, including bike access to major transit stops, bike parking at stops, and bicycle accommodations on board. Here is the Countywide Bicycle Plan published in February 2018.

Video Production Groups

There are a number of good video production groups and companies in Milpitas. Some are non-profit and some are commercial. The City of Milpitas does have a TV studio, but it has limited production capabilities.

DZ Open Lens Productions
Dox and I have been working and volunteering with non-profit KMVT15 in Mountain View and have access to their studios for producing educational and community service videos. There is no charge for what we do, but at this time we’re not doing commercial videos. We have several other volunteers who help us when we need larger crews. We welcome any willing to take a TV production training class or two at KMVT15. Teenagers, retired folks welcome. Mostly we do the productions on a Saturday, and the editing when convenient for those involved.

Mount Olive Ministries Monday Night Scouts
Mount Olive serves as charter partner to three Boy Scout Units and host several Girl Scout Units all at the same time on Monday nights. This allows a family with multiple children to take advantage of “one stop Scouting.”

Still, these are all northern California radio stations. First radio station link usually goes straight to their streaming service; second to the station’s home page. Most stations can also play through your Echo (Alexa). Just say “Alexa, play ….” and say the call letters of the radio station. If there is no comment that the station will work with Alexa, then it doesn’t work when I set up this page. I have not tested with other home devices, but if they can receive TuneIn or iHeart Radio, they should, too.

Ski Northern California nearest Bay Area!

No, it doesn’t often snow in Milpitas, and never enough to ski, but many love to head to the Northern California slopes near Truckee, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. Here’s our favorite nearby ski areas within about a 4-hour drive of Silicon Valley or San Francisco.

The recent storm brought blizzard conditions to the Sierras. Many resorts are closing some or all lifts, and roads up in the Sierras are dangerous driving. As the Weekend of December 16-18 approaches, roads may be clearing up.

As a reminder, ‘complete’ in green means the area has been assessed, fire damaged trees have been cut, decked, and are being hauled off the mountain to Tahoe Forest Products in Carson City. Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area
Open…We are OPEN today for season pass holders, day tickets, retail, rentals, lessons. Cafe amenities are open weekend only, and we have nutrition bars, snacks and cookies daily. North Valley Youth Soccer League
Check here for 2022 sign-ups, and schedules. Recreational soccer for children living in north San Jose, Alviso, California and east foothill neighborhoods, and also competitive soccer under North Valley United for teams comprised of children living anywhere in the bay area.

Warm Springs Aquatic Gators
We are looking forward to meet all our current, new swimmers and parent community. Warm Springs Aquatics or “the Gators” is a summer recreational swim team open to boys and girls ages 5 through 18. Swimmers start practicing in mid-April and swim through the end of July. Kids learn how to be great swimmers and team players in a fun and family-oriented atmosphere.
